About the Founder
Welcome!! I’m Mel… Founder and creator of Ashe, responder of your emails and Dm's, packer of your online purchases, Wife, Mum, Designer...(still wrapping my head around that last one).
I live in Central Queensland (this is where all your purchases will be shipped from), on a small farm, surrounded by green paddocks and grazing cattle, with my true-blue Aussie husband and our 4 darling girls. Yes. 4 girls. What a lucky man.
The brand name Ashe was inspired by our children, Audrey, Sylvie, Harriet and Esther.. 10 points if you guessed it - ASHE are my children initials. Who would have thought? All those tireless hours of culling through names, have finally paid off.
The idea to create Ashe, was one born from despair. About 4 years ago, shortly after the twins were born, putting them to bed one night, I walked out of the room and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I had to do a double take.
What on earth was I wearing?
Old, frayed shorts, and my husband’s old, frayed T-shirt.
Now don't get me wrong, I know why I chose to wear these old, frayed garments- because they were comfortable. While they did provide me with the comfort I so desperately needed, they made me feel pretty ordinary.. and I looked it too.
And so began a search for new pyjamas. Surely I could find something that was comfortable AND looked good? Any excuse to shop right?
My excitement soon turned to despair
There seemed to be only two options:
Option 1- Cotton, floral pyjamas, perfect for mother in laws and nans.
Option 2- Minimalist pyjamas. Perfect for those who like, minimal fabric, minimal lace, minimal coverage and minimal support. Not exactly appropriate when my 4 little girls are hanging off me 24/7.
And so the idea for Ashe was born.
Driven to a create a range of sleepwear that can be worn by real women, in REAL everyday life. To not only be practical but also look and feel beautiful. I know I don't need to tell you- it's busy being a woman.
From the very beginning of my Ashe journey, I knew I wanted to create a label that is both ethical and sustainable. This is so important to me, but these words seem to be getting used more and more frequently within the Fashion industry.
It can be hard to know where our clothes come from and how they are truly made.
I believe transparency is key to understanding this, and I'm committed to being as transparent as possible about my manufacturing process, whilst sharing valuable insight into fabrics, materials and care. (To read more about where our garments are made, click here)
I have poured my heart and soul into creating a conscious brand. One that helps women feel comfortable, confident, and attractive, while supporting other female led businesses and being kind to our planet.
Thank you so much for supporting my dream. I truly appreciate you joining me on my Ashe journey, and I hope our garments make you feel totally gorgeous,
Much love Mel xx
